[user:dns090|1207279950]]The vegetation for the Chaparral is very dry. Since the rain all come down in the winter, the vegetation doesn't get that much water. The vegetation is food for some of the animals that live in the Chaparral. The vegetation may include some bushes, shrubs, and a couple of trees. What is the vegetation of chaparral?
Chaparral has many shrubs, oaks, and small trees in it's ecosystem. Plants such as: redshanks, the chaparral pea, scrub oaks, California coffeeberry, toyon and yucca. But, these plants are being burned away, as chaparral is one of the most fire-prone biomes, and most of them are in North America, so we may get fires a lot. This is some info on vegetation in chaparral. There is also a picture of yucca at the bottom of the text. - jap106 jap106 Mar 26, 2008

Mariposa manzanita is a native perennial shrub of the California Sierra chaparral. It is found in the foothills and montane regions of the Sierra Nevada and the northern Coast Ranges at elevations ranging from 250 to 6,500 feet. Growing on open hillsides and along the edges of central oak woodlands and ponderosa pine forests, it likes dry, well-drained, and sunny sites. -Andrew Gonzalez

- jav018 jav018 Apr 3, 2008Chaparral is the dominant habitat found in the mountains of Southern California. It can be divided into the lower chaparral (from about 1000-5000 ft.) and the upper chaparral (above 5000 ft.) These are divided by their tolerance for snow. Plants in the lower chaparral can tolerate frost, but not snow, while plants in the upper chaparral can tolerate snow. Steep hillsides with poor, thin soil cannot support larger plants, but chaparral can grow here. The plants must be able to tolerate long periods without rain, in dry soil, with baking sun. These plants are seldom drought-deciduous. Most are evergreen, since they do most of their growth in the cool moist season. This vegetation is often called sclerophyllous, since the leaves are often small, hard, with waxy coatings or epidermal hairs.
